Grain Valley is positioned in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area and is a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri.

Grain Valley was established in the 1870s. The town/city was titled for the general character of the grain-producing region.

A postal service called Grain Valley has been in operation since 1879. The Grain Valley High School marching band appeared in the 2016 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 6.07 square miles (15.72 km2), of which, 6.06 square miles (15.70 km2) is territory and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water. 32.1% of inhabitants were under the age of 18; 7.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 35.2% were from 25 to 44; 18.3% were from 45 to 64; and 6.8% were 65 years of age or older.

The city, however, estimates that presently there are approximately 12,975 citizens living in the city's 4,647 homeholds.

There were 1,921 homeholds out of which 44.9% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 24.9% were non-families.

In the town/city the populace was spread out with 31.0% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 39.0% from 25 to 44, 14.7% from 45 to 64, and 6.0% who were 65 years of age or older.

The Grain Valley R-V School District serves Grain Valley, as well as parts of Blue Springs, Oak Grove, and unincorporated easterly Jackson County, in the State of Missouri.

In 1880, Grave's & Ashcroft's addition was platted in Grain Valley (around the textile mill).

The tracks reached Grain Valley in January, 1879.

Grain Valley's cream and green-trimmed depot was assembled around 1881, about 150 feet west of the Main Street crossing (recently relocated about 150' east of the Main St), between the existing 1880 Textile-Mill (established and directed since before 1878, earliest standing Original Grain Valley Structure (currently under renovation), also Trading-Post, Blacksmith, Hardware, etc ...) on the north side of the tracks (corner of Capelle and Front St, originally supplying enhance and army Uniforms, Blankets, Tents, Fabrics, Goods, etc ...

After one year of operation, Grain Valley generated over 260 carloads of outbound freight per year mostly grain and livestock.

There are no figures on the number of passengers getting on and off at Grain Valley, but the number was high enough to warrant the building of a hotel next door to the depot.

Over the years, two head-on train collisions have taken place at Grain Valley.

Although initially an elementary school, it later period to include a two-year high school curriculum.

Ten years later, the high school program was extended to four years.

That same year, with the annexation of some outlying non-urban school districts, Grain Valley Reorganized District #5 was formed.

A new elementary school was assembled immediately north of the existing brick structure, which was now to be used exclusively as a high school.

In 1988, the patrons of the school precinct approved the purchase of 60 acres on AA Highway for a new school project.

Five years later, another area, positioned on Ryan Road to the south, was purchased for the assembly of a middle school and Stony Point Elementary.

Grain Valley's three initial churches: Christian, Methodist, and Baptist, were assembled in the 1880s, and two of those structures still stand.

Mid-Continent Public Library added a Grain Valley branch in January, 1972.

The Bank of Grain Valley has the distinct ion of being the town's earliest existing business.
