New Haven is inside the Hermann AVA (American Viticultural Area).

New Haven was originally called Miller's Landing, and uner the latter name was platted in 1855. A postal service called New Haven has been in operation since 1858. New Haven also claims to be the beginning city of Sun Drop and has a Pepsi plant positioned in it.

New Haven is also the home of Pinckney Bend Distillery which has won a several international awards for its spirits.

The AME Church of New Haven, New Haven Commercial Historic District, New Haven Residential Historic District, Wilhelm Pelster House-Barn, and Christopher and Johanna Twelker Farm are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. New Haven is positioned at 38 36 18 N 91 13 5 W (38.604989, -91.218137). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 3.45 square miles (8.94 km2), of which, 3.29 square miles (8.52 km2) is territory and 0.16 square miles (0.41 km2) is water. There were 905 housing units at an average density of 275.1 per square mile (106.2/km2).

The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 95.1% White, 0.7% African American, 0.6% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 1.7% from other competitions, and 1.6% from two or more competitions.

There were 818 homeholds of which 34.8% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female homeholder with no husband present, 4.9% had a male homeholder with no wife present, and 34.8% were non-families.

The median age in the town/city was 36.5 years.
